Most career advice in India assumes a clear path: finish Class 10, pick a stream in Class 11, finish Class 12, then go to college. But if you love animation, you do not have to wait until after Class 12 to start. Starting early can actually give you a huge advantage. This guide is for Class 10 students and their parents in Haldwani and across Uttarakhand who are asking: can I really build a career in animation after 10th?
The short answer is yes. The longer answer is that early starts work best when paired with the right structure. At Reliance Animation Academy, we have built programmes specifically suited to younger students who are serious about creative careers.
Is It Safe to Choose Animation After Class 10?
Parents ask this for good reason. Traditionally, Class 10 was the last chance to "play safe" before committing to an academic stream. The good news is that choosing animation does not mean abandoning formal education. Most of our younger students continue their Class 11 and Class 12 alongside part-time animation training. By the time they finish Class 12, they have two full years of creative skill-building behind them — and that head start matters enormously in the job market.

Your Roadmap: Class 10 to Creative Career
Year 1 — Class 11 + Foundation Creative Course
In parallel with your Class 11 studies, enrol in a short-term foundation animation or design programme. Weekend or evening batches work well at this stage. You will learn basic drawing, colour, digital tools like Photoshop and Illustrator, and fundamentals of motion. This builds confidence and helps you decide which speciality you might want to pursue later.
Year 2 — Class 12 + Specialisation Starter
Continuing through Class 12, students take their first specialisation module. This might be a 2D animation course, a short 3D introduction, a video editing programme, or a graphic design starter. Most of our younger students begin with our Graphics and Editing courses because they build taste fast and open freelance doors early.
Year 3 and Beyond — Full Diploma or Degree
After Class 12, students transition into a full-length animation, VFX, UI UX, game design, or video editing diploma based on what they loved most during their foundation years. Because they are already two years ahead, they often graduate from our long-form programs with much stronger portfolios than students who started fresh after Class 12. Our B.Sc. Degree in Animation is a popular next step.
What Streams Can You Pursue?
The lovely thing about starting early is that you have time to explore. At Reliance Animation Academy, our younger students rotate through:
- 2D animation and illustration
- 3D animation and modelling (see our 3D animation course guide)
- VFX and compositing (our VFX course guide has more details)
- Graphic design (read our graphic design course guide)
- UI UX design (see our UI UX guide)
- Video editing and motion graphics (our video editing guide covers this stream)
- Game design (see our game design guide)
By the time they choose a long-form speciality, they have a real feel for what excites them.
Why an Early Start Pays Off
Employers hire animators based on portfolios, not age. A student who started learning Blender at 16 and has four years of practice by the time they are 20 will outcompete a student who started at 18 with two years. Early starts also build stronger fundamentals. The twelve principles of animation, drawing anatomy, colour theory — these take time to internalise, and time is the one thing you cannot fake.
Many of our most successful alumni took their first class with us while still in Class 11 or 12. By the end of their diploma, they were joining studios with reels that looked like those of professionals with years more experience.
What About Marks and Formal Education?
Please do not drop out of school. We strongly encourage every younger student to finish Class 12 with a reputable board. A Class 12 certificate keeps all doors open — including degree colleges, foreign study, and government roles you might value later. Creative careers and academic credentials are not in conflict. Our timetables are designed to work around school.
Skills You Will Build Between Class 10 and 12
By the time a student finishes Class 12 with us, they have typically developed:
- Fluency in at least two industry-standard software tools
- A starter portfolio of 10 to 15 small projects
- Basic freelance readiness for simple client work
- A clear sense of which speciality suits them best
- The confidence to present their work publicly
Fees and Access for Younger Students
Foundation courses for Class 11 and Class 12 students are intentionally priced to be affordable as parallel study. Full details are available via our contact page. We also offer scholarships for talented students from rural Uttarakhand.

Is animation a stable career? Yes. India's animation, VFX, gaming, UI UX, and content industries are all hiring, and remote work has made Uttarakhand a viable base for creative careers.
